HASA’s Legislative & Benefits Committee has the primary responsibility of lobbying members of the Florida Legislature on issues that effect public education in general and school administration in particular.  Committee members travel each year to Tallahassee during FASA’s Legislative Days to lobby members of the Hillsborough County Legislative Delegation.  During the year when the Florida Legislature is not in session, members of the committee meet and confer individually with Hillsborough legislators regarding the association’s legislative agenda.  The committee also participates in the Annual HASA Fall Social where members of the local legislative delegations are invited and members of the association are given the opportunity to interact with these lawmakers.  The Legislative and Benefits Committee also participates with the Hillsborough Advocates for Public Education (HAPE), an organization made up of PTA, CTA, HASA, and various other educator associations. 

The Legislative & Benefits Committee has adopted the following six goals for the 2004-2005 year: 

1. Adopt a HASA Legislative Agenda that will be supported and promoted by all association members.

2. Establish a Committee of Continuous Existence (CCE) to help promote legislative issues.

3. Promote the building of a coalition of Tampa Bay Area school districts that have associations of school administrators for the purpose of working collaboratively on issues of mutual interest and concerns.

4. Seek out companies that can offer our members reduced group rates in the areas of legal services, homeowner and automobiles insurance, cellular telephone services, and financial/retirement planning.

5. Administer a Legal Defense Fund for all HASA members.

6. Collaborate with HAPE (Hillsborough Advocates for Public Education).

7. Research issues of importance and produce reports on findings.
