HASA Scholarship

HASA is committed to enhancing the knowledge and leadership skills of its members, encouraging promising teachers to select school administration as a career goal, as well assisting graduating Hillsborough County Public School students in their pursuit of an Education degree.  This year, HASA is proud to make six scholarships available.

One of the HASA scholarships for a HASA member or teacher has been named the Tom Rao Leadership Scholarship in honor of Mr. Tom Rao, former principal of Hillsborough High School and HASA Executive Board member for many years.  This $1000 scholarship was named in memory of Mr. Rao due to his extensive involvement, leadership and commitment to HASA and the Hillsborough County Public Schools.  HASA’s Business Partner, Herff Jones, sponsored and funded this year’s Tom Rao Leadership Scholarship.  HASA would like to thank Lynn Zerkle and Herff Jones for their support.

HASA also offers a second $1000 college scholarship to current HASA members and teachers to use to further their education.  Through the generosity of Nova Southeastern University (NSU), another of HASA's Business Partners, two $1000 tuition vouchers are available for attendance at that institution.  As a reminder, Nova Southeastern University will waive the $50 admission application fee for all HASA members applying for graduate programs.

All four of these $1000 scholarships are awarded in order to reward HASA members for their outstanding contributions to our public schools and to promote educational leadership in our district.  Administrators who are current HASA members are eligible to apply if they enroll in post-graduate work at NSU or any other accredited college or university.  Teachers are also eligible to apply if they are working towards certification in Educational Leadership or Vocational Director.

One of HASA’s business partners, the Hillsborough Education Foundation, has also contributed scholarship funds.  Consequently, HASA is able to offer two $1000 HCC (Hillsborough Community College) scholarships to high school seniors or first-year HCC students.

Scholarship applications are available below.  All applications and supporting documents are due on March 21, 2008.  Scholarship recipients will be announced at the HASA Spring Social.
