HASA Provides Six $1,000 Scholarships
HASA is committed to enhancing the knowledge and
leadership skills of its members, encouraging promising teachers to select
school administration as a career goal, as well assisting graduating
Hillsborough County Public School students in their pursuit of an Education
degree. This year, HASA is proud to make six scholarships available.
One of the HASA scholarships for an administrator or
teacher has been named the Tom Rao Leadership scholarship in honor of Mr.
Rao, former principal of Hillsborough High School and HASA Executive Board
member. This $1000 scholarship was named in memory of Mr. Rao due to his
extensive involvement, leadership and commitment to HASA and the
Hillsborough County Public Schools. HASA’s business partner Herff Jones
sponsored and funded this year’s Tom Rao Leadership scholarship. HASA would
like to than Lynn Zirkle and Herff Jones for their support.
This year HASA will offer a second $1000 college
scholarship to current Hillsborough County Public School administrators and
teachers to use to further their education. This scholarship is named in
honor of Pat Smith, past President and the visionary behind the HASA
Scholarship program.
In addition, through the generosity of Nova
Southeastern University, two $1000 tuition vouchers are available for
attendance at that institution.
All four of these $1000 scholarships are awarded in
order to reward HASA members for their outstanding contributions to our
public schools and to promote educational leadership in our district.
Administrators who are current HASA members are eligible to apply if they
enroll in post-graduate work at an accredited college or university.
Teachers are also eligible to apply if they are working towards
certification in Educational Leadership or Vocational Director.
HASA’s business partner, the Hillsborough Education
Foundation has also contributed scholarship funds. Consequently HASA is
able to offer two $1000 HCC (Hillsborough Community College)
scholarships to high school seniors or first-year HCC students planning to
major in education. Students must be a dependent of an active or retired
HASA member or employed with Hillsborough County Public Schools.
Scholarship applications are available on the website (administrator/teacher
student).
All applications and supporting documents are due on
March 19, 2010. Scholarship recipients will be announced at the HASA
Spring Social.
